Paris – France

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF PARTNER

The Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is the public hospital system of the city of Paris and its suburbs. It provides health care, teaching, research, prevention, education and emergency medical service in 52 branches of medicine. It employs more than 90,000 people, including 15,800 physicians, in 44 hospitals and receives more than 5,8 million annual patient visits. The AP-HP is linked with the University of Paris and its seven colleges of medicine, including odontology and pharmacy.

SAMU de Paris – Services d’aide médicale urgente – is one of the services of AP-HP. Its mission is to provide free medical phone advice and, when needed, pre-hospital treatment and an optimised hospital orientation for critical care patients. During disaster situations including CBRN incidents, SAMU de Paris oversees coordination of hospitals in advanced medical care. In this way SAMU de Paris coordinates the actions of eight SAMUs and 70 mobile intensive care units for medical care of victims in the field and their transportation to the appropriate hospitals.

PARTNER’S ROLE IN THE Nightingale PROJECT

With previous experience in conducting large-scale demonstrations and the unique background in offering emergency services, SAMU plays a central role in supporting the implementation of the NIGHTINGALE project. SAMU provides input on triage protocols, damage control and pre-hospitalisation processes and helps to identify gaps and limitations in developing technological solutions for emergency medical services. SAMU leads the task on defining and elaborating overarching multi-hazard mass casualty scenarios for first responders.

In addition, SAMU provides targeted input on the data analysis and supports the realisation of small-scale and full-scale exercises, their evaluation and training procedures by offering necessary resources and facilities. As an experienced partner in projects funded by the European Commission, SAMU also contributes to communication, dissemination and exploitation activities, data management and the overall project planning.
