NIGHTINGALE WORKSHOP WITH END USERS

January 17-18, 2022

The year started with the first NIGHTINGALE workshop with end-users, medical practitioners, technical partners, and supporting partners. The meeting was held virtually on 17-18 January. It was hosted by SAMU de Paris in cooperation with the partners from the Centre for Research and Training in Disaster Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Global Health (UPO-CRIMEDIM) . The objective of the workshop was twofold. First, it is to define scenarios and user requirements for technical partners. And second, it is to discuss legal, ethical, and social aspects of the research and formulate pathways of addressing these issues in the project.

The first day started with an overview of technologies and solutions of the NIGHTINGALE toolkit. The participants heard presentations on current technologies used by emergency medical services as well as protocols, and procedures during mass casualty incidents. We had an engaging and informative discussion on common definitions of mass casualty incidents and simulation scenarios, which will be used in the development of NIGHTINGALE technologies. During the second day the participants discussed and reviewed user requirements for the NIGHTINGALE toolkit. The discussion also included an overview of legal, ethical, and social aspects presented by Dr Yael Vias Gvirsman, Reichman University (IDC Herzliya).

It was very a fruitful two-day virtual workshop, which created a strong foundation for establishing common definitions, user requirements and proceeding with the next steps. The next NIGHTINGALE event is a tabletop exercise taking place in Stockholm on the 21st -23rd of March 2022.
