NIGHTINGALE Joined the First Pan-European Mobile Emergency Application (PEMEA) Plugtests™ Event

11 March 2024

On 12-14 February, NIGHTINGALE joined the inaugural Pan-European Mobile Emergency Application (PEMEA) Plugtests™ event in Sophia Antipolis, France. Organised by ETSI in collaboration with the PEMEA Consortium, this ground-breaking initiative brought together sixteen organisations from across Europe.

At this event, our partners PARTICLE tested our SWAPP Citizen App, developed as part of the NIGHTINGALE Project. The SWAPP Citizen App is developed by our partners PARTICLE, INOV, and CESTEL.

NIGHTINGALE successfully validated SWAPP’s interoperability with PEMEA core nodes and services. This included testing instant messaging, real-time text, and audio-video features.

What is the swapp citizen app

SWAPP, a key component of NIGHTINGALE, serves a dual purpose in emergencies. Firstly, it facilitates citizen-to-emergency services communications, enabling seamless contact with emergency services using modern IP-enabled communication channels. This ensures democratic and universal access to emergency services, including improved accessibility for individuals with hearing impairments. Additionally, SWAPP empowers responsible citizenship by facilitating citizen-to-citizen communications, fostering volunteering communities, and enabling the exchange of vital information.

PEMEA PLugtests™

During the Plugtests , SWAPP’s PEMEA functions underwent rigorous testing with Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) systems from Finland, Romania, and Slovenia. We successfully demonstrated various functions, including initiating a 112 PEMEA call, sharing personal data, conducting video calls, and utilising chat and Real-Time Text (RTT) functionality.

Our participation in the PEMEA Plugtests™ event underscores NIGHTINGALE’s commitment to advancing emergency communication technologies across Europe. These tests not only validate the effectiveness of SWAPP but also highlight its alignment with promising European interoperability standards for advanced emergency services.
